Focus on what matters and let go of what doesn’t. People often think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But, what it actually means is saying no to the other thousands of things that distract you.

Focus comes in a short supply in today’s modern life of distractions. But what is important is to concentrate all your thoughts upon work at hand. It doesn’t matter how many hours you have spent working, but what matters is working with complete focus and concentration. It’s not about being busy all the time, instead, it’s about being productive and focused.

The more focused you are, the more successful you’ll be. Focus builds your flow. It shows you how things are better done. It helps you find the smallest deformities.

Are you easily distracted by little stimuli? Do you find it difficult to concentrate on the task? Below you’ll find 10 ways to improve your focus and sharpen your attention.

1. MEDITATION

Greater concentration is related to the increased energy meditation provides. Meditation not only increases focus, it also reduces stress, leads to a healthy lifestyle and keeps us fresh. People who practice meditation on a regular basis have a better mental focus as compared to non-meditators.

It is an exercise that trains the brain and helps in focusing, even in the boring of tasks. Meditators can better control the brain regions responsible for pulling away our focus when we are trying to concentrate.
Meditation is like a gym in which you develop the powerful mental muscles of calm and insight. It is a bridge that connects our mind and soul.

Meditation is a great way to keep the body well-centered. It is a bow for which concentration is an arrow.

2. BY DOING ONE THING AT ONE TIME

Doing just one thing at a time keeps you focused and brings more attention to work. It’s worth the struggle a hundred times over. When we try doing multiple things at the same time, we become busy. Multitasking is stimulating but it makes us less productive.

Every minute, our brain is flooded with multiple thoughts. But, it cannot absorb all of them together. It’s impossible for our brain to focus on all of the tasks together.
Single tasking keeps us attentive towards our primary goal and lets us live deeper and do a better job at each task. Doing one thing at a time is one of the best ways to accomplish more in less time and helps in maintaining focus and concentration too.

3. CREATE THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT

We are surrounded by tons of distractors everywhere. The noise, phone calls, messages, climate and comfort- everything distracts us.

To maintain the concentration and to work with complete focus, all we have to do is to make the environment work for us. Creating a positive working environment will obviously yield far better results. When people feel encouraged, accepted and happy, they become more motivated and perform better.

Keep away from the things that distract you. If your cell phone distracts you, turn it off and keep it in another room. Find a corner where there is no noise and sounds and stay away from high activity areas. Block the websites that distract you.

4. HAVE SOME COFFEE

Whenever you feel like you are losing some interest, grab some coffee. The morning coffee is enough to make you feel focused throughout the day. A study has shown that there is a connection between caffeine and cognition. Coffee makes you less distracted and keeps you attentive towards the demanding task.

Coffee takes away your dizziness and serves the purpose of being an attention booster in the night.

5. REGULAR BREAKS

Taking regular breaks is a waste of time for few people. But, it’s actually not. Taking frequent breaks improves the focusing power and freshens up the mind. It energizes the brain with positive vibes.

While taking a break, you should do the following. Go outside and take a deep breath. Calm your mind with a soothing music. You can even do some yoga exercises. Wash your face and drink some water.

6. PREPARE YOUR BRAIN

Before beginning any task, calm yourself down in a comfortable position. Sit and relax for two minutes and let your body calm down. Take a deep breath.

Take care of yourself. Have proper diet.Scattered energy is of no use here. You always need a well centered and concentrated energy. Chanting OM loudly can really help you recharge your mind.

7. EXERCISE YOUR MIND DAILY

Fed up of doing the same repeated task? Try something new. To keep your mind fresh, exercise it daily. Solve puzzles, crosswords, sudokus, get engaged in discussions. Give yourself enough time. After all, your brain is an asset to you.

Start doing whatever you like. Do whatever you like, whatever your hobby is. Don’t let your mind idle. You can get some exercise equipments that too at affordable prices due to ongoing health equipment offers. . This will give you immense pleasure and keep your mind fresh.

8. FORCE YOURSELF A BIT

Sometimes when we’re feeling lazy, we need that little push to get us out of our state of inertia. That’s ok, having to force yourself to start working is normal, the flow comes as you go on. However, there are times when your mind simply refuses to go on with something. Don’t force yourself too much at this point, even if you end up working it won’t be really productive. Go do something else, preferably something much different from the work you were doing.

9. WORK ONLY WHEN YOU ARE COMFORTABLE

Some people concentrate better at day, some at night. Work only when you feel like. Sometimes your environment doesn’t let you concentrate during the daytime. But it doesn’t mean to stay awake the whole night. Have a sound sleep and work only when you find yourself to be more productive.

10. DOODLING

Doodling is the one way that helps you keep your concentration level high. A recent study shows that those who doodle remember more than the non-doodlers. They have better-retaining capacity.
Doodling helps you to concentrate because it requires enough cognitive effort to keep you from daydreaming, and yet not enough to prevent you from paying attention to what is going on around you. In other words, one of the benefits of doodling is that it helps you to anchor your attention and stay engaged instead of zoning out.

Follow these ten steps given above and you will find yourself in the peaceful state of mind. Your brain will be able to concentrate better. Instead of wondering where your time went by the end of the day, you will be amazed at doing all the productive things throughout the day. Give your best and achieve all you want to by improving focus.
