These days, countless headlines hurl around the “Kardashian” effect. Many teens choose to have their taut teenage skin tucked and nipped to “perfection”, but really, is there any truth to this idea that celebrities encourage youngsters to go under the knife to pimp their looks? In a world that is all about high-definition, the pressure goes on to everyone to look their best, always. For celebrities with paparazzi constantly around them, plastic surgery is often the only answer to enhance their looks, sometimes, even before the person is old enough make the decision.
For non-famous people who do not live under the paparazzi spotlight, Instagram can be a stressful platform already. Not only do people love to see the lives of their friends for fun, but also pass judgments on their smoother looking skin, slimmer waists, and well-contoured face and body. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons
reports that over 18,000 teens between the ages of thirteen and nineteen turn to breast augmentation in Atlanta, and the number keeps rolling up. They also state that about 64 percent of teenagers visit clinics for facial surgeries. With statistics revealing higher numbers, there seems to be more pressure on the younger generation to look exceedingly perfect.
The American Academy of Reconstructive and Facial Plastic Surgery’s survey blames the new era of “selfies” for the rise in the number of teen plastic surgery. Their representative said,
“As we take more pictures of ourselves, the pressure of looking beautiful increases. At a younger age, people compare their looks and turn to Photoshop, filters and other enhancements to refine their looks to show the world. Eventually, they have no choice but to turn to plastic surgery as the next step.”
Every picture a person takes today, you can see them working on their best angles. One of the most visible and trending examples of this is the celeb Kyle Jenner, who at the age of sixteen went from a pretty teenager to a stunning and unrecognizable bombshell. Although she only admits that she plumped her lips, speculations are that her nose, butt, and breasts have also gone under the knife.
During an episode of her family's hit show, “keeping up with the Kardashians”, she mentioned in an interview that she always felt conscious about her looks, so she had fillers put into her lips to enhance them. Of course, even before her dad, Bruce Jenner transitioned to Caitlyn; spotlights were on their family for their history of plastic surgery. The light still shines on them, as Kim Kardashian is renowned for her regular visits for facial surgeries. Definitely, with surgical procedures being a part of their family, it is no surprise that Kylie follows their footstep at a younger age. Today, she is a role model for most teens that look up to such celebs to get a booster for their dreams of perfection.
Apart from Kylie, many other celebrities seemingly iron out their creases and enhance their curves. For some teens, the openness and rise of plastic surgery among celebs make it a less stigmatized and more appealing choice to youths.
Although plastic surgery was a trend common only in older people, times have changed today and most teens are turning to different procedures to enhance their appearance. Of course, personal satisfaction, and self-esteem is vital when it comes to obtaining the perfect body and looks.
Today, majority teens are turning to plastic surgery for their best looks. Non-invasive procedures are more common among them, yet a few surgical procedures are also being reached for. Majority of teens visiting Crispin Plastic Surgery center have been reported to take breast augmentation in Atlanta
, and others like, buttock augmentation, and tummy tuck are surgical procedures common in teens. Others visiting, go for Botox, Rhinoplasty, brow lifts and more enhancement options.
