What we need

I couldn't help but notice the latest website poll on this site about what does Richmond Hill need more, restaurants, retailers, entertainment or recreation.

I agree we could use a few more things, but I really belive that adding to much to this community would cause it to lose the quaintness, values and close-knit feel that people move here for. Sure it would be good to have a movie theater or a Target for convenience's sake, but it's not really too bad too drive to Pooler for a movie or Georgetown in Savannah for Target.

Rihcmond Hill would be spoiled if too many more things came here and opened. Just look at Pooler, that place is getting to be a mess. I do go over there for films and to check out there new restaurants, and traffic is a night mare. It's almost not worth it. And the residents there don't have a choice but to drive through it every day. We don't want that in Richmond Hill.

I, like all others, want our city to thrive, but I hope it's unique small-town feel stays intact. It's a convenient location for driving to anything we might need, and we get to keep our clean neighborhoods, maneuverable roads and mostly manageable traffic. Rreally, its the best of both worlds.

The quaintness is not working. RH is set on bringing in industry and turning the place into Garden City and wooing even more industry.

If they don't start bringing in some decent retail and restaurants then the place is doomed. They need a development plan. Instead they just keep approving housing developments and brining in industry without providing the roads that are needed, thousands of home already approved.

When they eventually put in the new exit there is nothing in RH I can't do without and will bypass the city due to traffic.

Everyone does all their shopping in Pooler anyway. They certainly don't need to go overboard like pooler, but they need something to keep the residents here and spending money here. Who comes to RH to spend money? No one, there is nothing to come here for. SO we have lots of empty lots, lots of empty store fronts, run down store fronts.

So much to do
December 10, 2014
I just want to say nice job to the Bryan County News for last week when they printed that list of weekend events and such on the front of their paper in the left side blue box. That was a really helpful guide, and I'm glad I saw it. I ...

Holidays are special, people!
November 12, 2014
Yes, I understand the usual complaints about how it's not even Thanksgiving yet, and there are arelady tons of Christmas products in stores and Christmas music being played on the radio constantly. But that is an age-old complaint that has been around the block. A fairly new holiday complaint of ...

Festival confusion
October 20, 2014
I read in a Bryan County News article that buying a ticket to the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival would allow the ticket holder to leave and re-enter the GOSF. However, that was not true at all. They made me buy another ticket when I left to just go out to ...
